Fueling Innovation and Entrepreneurship in la Isla del Encanto
Capicú has been selected for the third cohort of BioLeap, the life sciences incubator program led by the Puerto Rico Science, Technology and Research Trust and operated by parallel18. We're one of 17 Puerto Rico-based startups in this cohort, each receiving a $20,000 grant along with 12 weeks of business education and 16 weeks of technical assistance, mentorship, and access to industry advisers.
This matters to us for a specific reason. We've spent the past year building tools for on-device AI in healthcare settings where infrastructure is the constraint. The research is real, the prototypes work, and the clinical need is documented. What we haven't had is structured support for the part that comes after: formalizing operations, tightening the path from prototype to product, and building the regulatory and commercial foundation that turns a working system into something a clinic can actually adopt.
BioLeap is designed for exactly that stage. The program concentrates on life sciences ventures in biotech, medtech, digital health, and related fields, and it's backed by a Build to Scale grant from the U.S. Department of Commerce's Economic Development Administration. For us, the value is in the rigor: structured mentorship on regulatory readiness, business strategy, and investment positioning from people who know this ecosystem.
We're building this in Puerto Rico because the problem lives here. Intermittent power, fragile connectivity, clinics that need tools designed for their reality rather than adapted from someone else's. BioLeap gives us the support structure to build locally and compete globally.
