Capicú has been selected for VentureWell's E-Team Pioneer program, the first stage of a program designed to help student-led ventures validate the best market for their innovation through non-dilutive funding and entrepreneurship training.

This support matters because it aligns directly with what we're building and where we're building it.

Downtime is a patient safety problem

Critical care doesn't stop when power or networks do. But documentation and coordination often do, creating avoidable risk when seconds matter.

Healthcare systems plan for EHR downtime for a reason. The U.S. HHS ASPR TRACIE resource library emphasizes that downtime guidance is based on real incidents impacting clinical care, including practices like drills, training, and communication triage procedures to protect patient safety. And downtime isn't only about software. Telecommunications and IT services can be disrupted for many reasons, including the secondary effects of power outages, which ripple into clinical workflows when infrastructure is stressed.

This is especially relevant where resiliency can't be optional. The U.S. Energy Information Administration reports that Puerto Rico customers averaged about 27 hours of power interruptions per year from 2021 to 2024, even excluding major events like hurricanes.

So we started with a simple design principle: build critical-care support systems that remain useful when the environment isn't.

What we're building

Capicú is building a portable, offline-first bedside system for acute events that pulls in device signals at the point of care, guides rapid triage and stabilization with structured prompts, and streamlines documentation by actively listening to acute events and building a clean timeline as things happen rather than asking clinicians to reconstruct the story after the fact.

The goal isn't to replace clinicians. It's to reduce cognitive overhead during high-stress moments and ensure that the record of care is accurate, time-stamped, and consistent even when connectivity is unreliable.

What we mean by "MDDS" and why we're careful with it

In the FDA's definition, a Medical Device Data System is intended to perform functions like electronic transfer, storage, conversion, or display of medical device data without controlling or altering the connected devices. That concept maps closely to what we're building: a bedside system that ingests device data, organizes it, and presents it in a way that supports clinical coordination.

We recognize that intended use determines regulatory classification, especially when decision-support capabilities are involved. We approach MDDS as a core architectural backbone and design our roadmap with regulatory boundaries in mind.

Offline-first is the point, not a feature

Most systems assume a stable environment. Acute care doesn't wait for ideal conditions. An offline-first bedside system keeps a local encrypted event log, preserves signal context including quality artifacts and timestamps, provides workflow continuity across roles and handoffs, and supports later synchronization when secure connectivity is available.

This is how we bring critical-care support closer to patients: by making the bedside node reliable enough to be trusted during the moments that matter most.

What's next

VentureWell's Pioneer stage includes $5,000 in non-dilutive funding plus an entrepreneurship training workshop focused on identifying the best market and clarifying pathways to impact. We're especially interested in the Pioneer focus on customer discovery, market selection, and value definition because it forces the right kind of rigor early.

With Pioneer support, our next phase is centered on evaluating product-market fit with clinical stakeholders and emergency response teams, advancing field testing in Puerto Rico where resiliency is not theoretical and offline-first systems can make a measurable difference, and tightening the bedside-to-record workflow so documentation is generated as a natural byproduct of care delivery rather than a separate burden.

Because for us, "AI that fits anywhere" means something concrete: critical-care support that stays on when everything else goes dark.
